Camp Pinckney Baptist Church-Folkston, Georgia-31537

About Us

A church with a historic past, a very promising future, and an unusual name. According to some historians, this church started around 1840 near an important boat landing on the St. Marys River where a ferry was operated. Captain Thomas Pinckney and his militia troops established a camp at the crossing where passengers, supplies, and mail from St. Augustine headed north on the King's Highway. These troops provided security for the area.

It was there, near the Pinckney Militia Camp and the St. Marys River, a small church began and took the name "Camp Pinckney Baptist Church. Camp Pinckney was the first Baptist church in the county and has been in continuous service ever since.

Some years later the church moved to a field on the John B. Lloyd property, about halfway from the river and the present site. About the turn of the century, Camp Pinckney moved to its present location where it continues to grow. In 1972, construction began on our first brick building. This building was used as the sanctuary for many years and is now used for Sunday School classrooms. In 1987, construction began on our current sanctuary. A modern two story building with a seating capacity of 600.

God has indeed blessed us. We look forward to what God has for us in the future.
